Black Prophecy vs Freelancer comparison that was originally supposed to be Black Prophecy review :D
I finally downloaded and installed Black Prophecy, when I first ran it I already knew that I'm going to write some sort of review or thoughts about it on the forum. Back then I was already planning a big rant on the horrible download manager and missing login! Yes! I tried to login through the website... not the game launcher... Ehh... I didn't play MMOs in a while, that's all ><
Anyway, when I finally had all those troubles out of the way, the first thing I noticed about the game that you could also notice on the video are nice graphics. I, of course, don't care much about graphics, it's ok as long as they aren't so horrible that they make it painful to play the game. Freelancer's graphics aren't impressive for today's standards but it didn't stop it from being a great game. Also, I thought the cut scenes in Black Prophecy looked really good. In the first mission, one thing that made me really happy were battleships, they have several weak points which you have to destroy in order to destroy the battleship. I suppose they only appear in the missions, but as I said I only played for few hours so I don't know, I still think it's cool though. In fact there were also battleships in freelancer but you couldn't destroy them, they were only used for story and as docking stations. The only larger type of enemies in freelancer were gunships which only had bigger health, there's nothing wrong with that but I really like the destructible battleships idea in Black Prophecy. As I finally started to get hang of Black Prophecy I started to notice more and more similarities to freelancer, repair drones, targeting, aiming help and probably some other things that I can't think off from the top of my head. One thing that really disappointed me was the way you travel around the map. Where in freelancer you have many huge systems in which you can travel around freely, in Black Prophecy you have lots of places around the whole map which you travel to by using the "starmap". You basically select the place, click "Travel", the game "calculates" something and after a few seconds you get a cut scene of you flying off... then the screen fades out and fades back in with you in your destination. I honestly think the freelancer system is superior, but that's probably a matter of personal preference, for me... it kind of ruins the "exploring" aspect that I think I've seen being mentioned somewhere. The black prophecy method, yes, is faster but limits you to only those places pinpointed on the "starmap" and kind of makes this entire chunk of universe seem the size of my school playground. Maybe all those star systems in freelancer squeezed into a small space you can travel through from one end to the other in 10 minutes with cruise engines on don't seem like much either but, when after half an hour and tens of battles with the pirates you finally arrive at your destination in freelancer, you really think "Wow, I really feel like I just travelled through a couple of star systems". Seems boring? It might be at times, but blowing up pirates that just disrupted the trade lane while you're in it is surprisingly entertaining. To finish off, I'd like to say that the music in Black Prophecy is decent but no where near freelancer's. In conclusion, I think I slightly prefer freelancer.
So, there you go, that's my thoughts on the game. I know it kind of transformed into a comparison with freelancer somewhere along the way but I suppose you saw that coming.

Nice review,i think it would be great if you could travel on your own but also by using the map.

I agree, that would give you the freedom to explore the systems freely while letting you to skip long boring travels across 10 star systems when you just want to get somewhere fast.
