I think the problem is it really hurts when you get hit by the bullet, so you have to wear lots of equipment which makes you hot in the summer, while in the winter either there's too much snow, or little time, taken away by school and stuff, so...

Bought silicone thumb grips for a PS3 controller on EBAY

It's much better to play with them because they go up at the end so your fingers won't slide,also it's very good for people who have sweaty hands,I got used to them immediately.
